Turn real workplace decisions into repeatable VR scenarios
The Walkabout XR Scenario Builder is the product direction for making immersive training more adaptable. It is being developed to help training and HSEQ teams shape scenarios around the choices, hazards and procedures that matter in their operation—without treating every change as a completely new application.
WHERE TO START
Start With the Decision, Not the Technology
A strong VR training scenario begins with a clear operational question. What should the learner notice? Which procedure should they follow? What happens if they miss a control, take a shortcut or make the right call?
Walkabout XR uses reusable module frameworks and collaborative scoping to translate those questions into practical immersive training. As the Scenario Builder develops, the aim is to make this process faster and give clients more influence over content, pathways and assessment logic.
HOW IT’S STRUCTURED
The Building Blocks of a Useful Scenario
Place the learner in a recognisable work setting, from an industrial site or workshop to a plant room, confined space or pre-start area.
Define what the learner needs to inspect, prepare, operate, communicate or complete. The task gives the scenario its purpose and determines what behaviour is meaningful to observe.
Introduce meaningful choices rather than a passive walkthrough. The learner must identify what matters and decide what to do next.
Points
Show why a decision matters through immediate coaching, a changed scenario state or an end-of-session review.
Capture the actions, omissions or sequence that indicate understanding. Deeper assessment and reporting tools are part of the evolving roadmap.
From Procedure to Immersive Module
Choose a high-value training use case with a clear audience and learning objective
Define who is learning, what they need to do and why it matters before any development begins.
Map the correct workflow, critical controls, hazards and credible learner mistakes
Document the approved procedure and the ways it typically goes wrong before designing the scenario.
Decide which elements can use an existing Walkabout XR framework and which need adaptation
Reuse what already works to reduce cost and lead time while adapting what must be specific to your operation.
Build and test the scenario with subject-matter experts and representative users
Validate accuracy, decisions and coaching with the people who know the procedure and the learner.
Deploy the approved module, gather feedback and prioritise refinements
Use real workforce feedback to improve the scenario and identify the next development priority.
Where Scenario Branching Adds Value
Branching is most useful when different choices genuinely change the training outcome.
A linear scenario teaches the correct sequence. A branching scenario tests whether the learner can identify the right sequence when conditions, distractions or competing pressures are present.
PLATFORM APPROACH
Designed to Reuse What Already Works
The commercial value of a platform approach is reuse. A proven interaction, assessment method or environmental framework can support more than one module. That means your next scenario may not need to begin with a blank development canvas.
Walkabout XR can combine all three. The right mix depends on how specific the procedure is, what must be represented accurately and whether the scenario can become part of the wider module library.
IMPORTANT PRODUCT NOTE
The Scenario Builder is an evolving Walkabout XR capability. Scenario branching, client administration controls and self-service authoring functions are planned or potential areas of development and may not all be available in the current release. We will confirm the appropriate workflow and available functionality for your use case before scoping a deployment.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will clients be able to build scenarios themselves?
Greater client control is part of the product direction, but the level of self-service available will depend on the release and scenario complexity. Current projects use a collaborative discovery, development and review process.
Can we use our own procedures and branding?
Yes. Client procedures, terminology, branding and site information can be incorporated where agreed. Confidential client material remains the client’s property.
Can one scenario have different outcomes?
Scenario branching is a planned platform capability and can also be scoped within selected module development where technically appropriate.
