ATCO – 3D Virtual Tour of Hydrogen-Powered Display Home

ATCO’s H2 Home tour offers an immersive walkthrough of hydrogen-powered living, enhanced with multimedia hotspots, sleek branding, and streamlined navigation.

The Client

ATCO’s Hydrogen Home is part of the Clean Energy Innovation Hub in Western Australia, built to demonstrate how renewable hydrogen can be safely and efficiently used in residential settings. The home showcases ATCO’s leadership in clean energy development and their ongoing efforts to support Australia’s transition to a low-carbon future.

The Challenge

ATCO wanted to bring its “House of the Future” to life online—a hydrogen-powered display home designed to show how clean energy can be used in everyday Australian living. The goal was to reach a wide audience, including the general public, stakeholders, and industry partners, and give them a way to explore the home remotely.

The challenge was more than just scanning the space—it was about creating an engaging, educational experience. The virtual tour needed to clearly highlight key hydrogen-based technologies, such as the cooktop, hot water system, and HVAC setup. Each feature had to be explained in a way that was easy to understand, even for users with no technical background.

On top of this, the tour had to reflect ATCO’s branding and be easy to navigate. That meant simplifying the interface, removing unnecessary menu items, and making sure the whole experience worked smoothly in a web browser—on both desktop and mobile devices. The final product had to look sharp, feel intuitive, and support ATCO’s goal of educating people about the role hydrogen can play in the future of residential energy.

Our Solution

3D Walkabout scanned the entire H2 Home using a Matterport camera to create a detailed and realistic 3D tour. The tour was then customised with ATCO branding, a clear title, and a simplified layout that removed clutter and made navigation easy.

Interactive hotspot tags were added to highlight key hydrogen systems, each one including text, images, and hosted video content to educate users as they moved through the space. The final tour worked smoothly in any web browser, giving ATCO a powerful tool to share their vision of future energy with the public and industry partners. The result was an engaging, user-friendly virtual tour that combined great visuals with educational value—and ATCO was thrilled with how it turned out.
