The Client

Avicena Systems’ Sentinel ULTRA is a world-leading molecular diagnostics platform, designed to provide scalable and flexible sample loading for diverse diagnostic needs. This platform aims to revolutionise biosecurity preparedness by delivering rapid and adaptable solutions.

The Challenge

Developing the interactive VR application for the Avicena Sentinel came with several challenges. The main goal was to create an immersive experience that effectively showcased the platform’s advanced diagnostic capabilities and unique surge feature, allowing potential clients to grasp the benefits of its flexible, on-the-fly sample loading. Moreover, optimising the application for the Meta Quest 2/3 involved meticulous attention to detail, including high-quality 3D animations that highlighted the Sentinel’s cutting-edge technology while ensuring smooth performance across different VR headsets.
 
The project required close collaboration between Avicena Systems and 3D Walkabout to seamlessly integrate the VR experience into the sales team’s toolkit, enhancing global client engagement efforts. Translating the platform’s technical specifications into a compelling and interactive VR environment, all while adhering to tight deadlines, added another layer of complexity to the development process.

Our Solution

To demonstrate the advanced capabilities of the Avicena Sentinel platform, Avicena Systems partnered with 3D Walkabout to develop an interactive VR application for the Meta Quest 2/3. The goal was to create an immersive experience, enabling Avicena’s sales team to effectively showcase the Sentinel ULTRA’s unique features, particularly its scalable rapid molecular diagnostics and flexible surge capabilities. We worked closely with Avicena’s product team to translate the Sentinel’s design and features into a dynamic virtual environment. This involved crafting detailed 3D models of the Sentinel, capturing both its external structure and intricate internal components, and simulating its innovative sample loading mechanism. These 3D models were then incorporated into an engaging VR experience, allowing users to interactively explore the Sentinel platform and understand its advanced diagnostic functions.

The VR experience includes guided tours and interactive features, giving clients a deeper understanding of the product’s capabilities. By aligning the virtual experience with the Sentinel’s real-world application, we successfully achieved Avicena’s objectives of enhancing client engagement and facilitating informed discussions. The VR solution effectively brings the Avicena Sentinel to life, strengthening client relationships and boosting global outreach. We have since applied these techniques to other projects, delivering innovative 3D and VR solutions that drive engagement. FACT FILE: Nick Freeman is a 3D Scanning Operator at 3D Walkabout, based in Brisbane, with a strong background in drafting, 3D scanning, and commercial floor planning. With over a decade of experience in AutoCAD and Revit, Nick brings both technical precision and practical on-site expertise to every project. Before joining 3D Walkabout, Nick worked with leading firms such as Realserve, Aqualogical, and Enduraclad, where he honed his skills in 3D scanning, hydraulic and fire system drafting, and CNC programming.
