BeCrocwise – Northern Territory 3D Safety Animations

Be Crocwise safety animations for the NT Government show realistic crocodile behaviours and water-edge dangers. Designed for schools, airports, and public spaces, these clips deliver educational, accurate safety messages.

The Client

Be Crocwise is a public safety initiative by the Northern Territory Government, dedicated to educating residents and visitors about safely living alongside saltwater crocodiles. Through engaging campaigns, educational resources, and community outreach, Be Crocwise works to raise awareness, reduce risks, and promote responsible behaviour around waterways across the Northern Territory.

The Challenge

The Northern Territory Government needed a suite of engaging 3D animations to support their Be Crocwise safety campaign. These short films had to visually convey the hidden dangers of saltwater crocodiles, particularly near the water’s edge, for a diverse audience including children, new migrants, and general residents.

The animations had to be scientifically accurate, educational, and accessible across multiple platforms—from schools to airports and cinemas. Realism in both crocodile behaviour and environmental setting was essential to drive the message home.

Our Solution

We used Blender to animate a highly detailed saltwater crocodile, which we customised to match species native to Northern Australia. Working closely with the client, we ensured accurate depictions of key behaviours—ambush movement, eye and teeth and jaw adaptations.

We created three animated clips demonstrating various risk scenarios. Blender’s geometry nodes allowed us to generate dynamic, realistic water animations. We were happy with the results, a set of films that we’re hoping will be playing across NT’s public safety channels.

Created a scientifically accurate 3D saltwater crocodile, customised to match the physical traits of local species in Northern Australia

Collaborated closely with government stakeholders to ensure correct movement patterns and behaviour based on real crocodile physiology

Produced three immersive animated clips that illustrate key safety scenarios involving crocodile behaviour and proximity to water’s edge

Delivered visually engaging assets designed for public screens, cinemas, social media, and educational platforms

Used Blender’s geometry nodes to animate dynamic water surfaces, enhancing visual realism and environmental immersion

Crafted animations with clear, visual storytelling to support NT Government’s messaging for diverse audiences across age and literacy levels
