The Client

R.M.Williams is an iconic Australian brand, renowned for handcrafted leather boots and premium apparel since 1932. With a growing global presence, the company continues to blend tradition with innovation, using digital experiences like virtual tours to showcase its stores and products in new ways.

The Challenge

R.M.Williams partnered with 3D Walkabout to create a virtual tour experience that could showcase their Perth store to a wider audience. Once the tour was launched, the main priority was ensuring reliable hosting and smooth performance as traffic volumes grew.

Because the tour would be accessed by a broad customer base, bandwidth usage and server capacity had to be carefully managed. At the same time, the setup needed to integrate seamlessly with R.M.Williams’ internal systems and allow for easy updates, revisions, and long-term scalability.

Our Solution

To support the Perth store virtual tour, the 3D Walkabout team implemented a hosting setup that could handle traffic demands while maintaining smooth performance. Bandwidth limits were increased when required, ensuring the tour was always accessible to customers.

The team worked closely with R.M.Williams’ internal web administrators to plan long-term hosting within the company’s own systems. This allowed flexibility—initial hosting was managed by 3D Walkabout, while future updates and revisions could be repackaged and easily integrated by the client’s team. Regular communication and ongoing technical support ensured the virtual tour was reliable at launch and scalable for future growth.

3D SCANNING OPERATOR (NSW) - ‘J-SCAN’
FACT FILE: John is a 3D Scanning Operator at 3D Walkabout, based in Sydney, with a decade of experience in 3D design, virtual reality production, and immersive environment creation. With a background as a 3D artist and researcher, John brings deep expertise in real-time 3D production, photogrammetry, and environment design using tools such as Unreal Engine, Unity, Autodesk Maya, Substance Painter, and Reality Capture. Before joining 3D Walkabout, John worked extensively in VR/XR development and teaching at UNSW. He holds a PhD in Virtual Reality Design from the University of New South Wales.

FACT FILE: Nick Freeman is a 3D Scanning Operator at 3D Walkabout, based in Brisbane, with a strong background in drafting, 3D scanning, and commercial floor planning. With over a decade of experience in AutoCAD and Revit, Nick brings both technical precision and practical on-site expertise to every project. Before joining 3D Walkabout, Nick worked with leading firms such as Realserve, Aqualogical, and Enduraclad, where he honed his skills in 3D scanning, hydraulic and fire system drafting, and CNC programming.
