Stone Island – Australia’s First Overwater Cable Car Resort

Stone Island’s 3D animation highlights the eco-friendly design of the Whitsunday Cable Car and its integration into the pristine Great Barrier Reef. The animation showcases the journey from Bowen mainland to the tropical holiday island, providing an immersive view of this Australian-first travel experience.

The Client

Stone Island is an Australian-first eco-resort and holiday destination located in the Whitsundays, just off the coast of Bowen, Queensland. As the first island in Australia accessible via an over-water cable car, this innovative project redefines island tourism while prioritising environmental sustainability and regional economic growth.

The Challenge

Bringing the vision of Stone Island’s overwater cable car resort to life presented unique challenges. The primary objective was to showcase the eco-friendly design of the Whitsunday Cable Car and its seamless integration into the pristine environment of the Great Barrier Reef, enabling stakeholders and future visitors to fully visualise this ground-breaking project prior to its construction. Developing a 3D animation that captured the journey from Bowen’s mainland to the tropical holiday island required exceptional attention to detail, including realistic depictions of the natural surroundings and the innovative cable car system. The challenge lay in crafting an immersive experience that balanced architectural accuracy with engaging storytelling, highlighting the resort’s commitment to sustainability. Ensuring the animation aligned with the project’s ambitious vision and reflected the environmental values of the Great Barrier Reef required close collaboration with the design team. These elements were key in overcoming the technical and creative hurdles of this Australian-first travel experience.

Our Solution

3D Walkabout was commissioned to bring the vision of Australia’s first overwater cable car resort to life through a compelling 3D animation. The client required a way to showcase the Whitsunday Cable Car’s eco-friendly design and its integration into the natural beauty of the Great Barrier Reef, allowing stakeholders and potential visitors to visualise the journey and the resort experience prior to its construction.Working in close collaboration with the architects and designers, we transformed their conceptual designs and technical plans into detailed 3D models. This included accurately rendering the round tower architecture, cable car infrastructure, and the surrounding pristine environment to create a realistic and immersive experience. The animation showcased the entire journey, beginning on the Bowen mainland and extending to the tropical holiday island, providing a comprehensive visualisation of the travel experience. By incorporating drone footage, Pinterest board references, and design files provided by the client, we ensured an authentic representation of the project’s vision. This solution effectively conveyed the innovation and eco-conscious approach of the project, aligning with the environmental values of the Great Barrier Reef. The final animation not only met but exceeded client expectations, generating excitement and engagement among stakeholders and potential visitors. With this project, we demonstrated our ability to deliver high-quality visualisations for large-scale and environmentally sensitive developments, setting the standard for future projects.
